Marcos Opts for Avons on New 142mph Sports Car
When your new 180bhp V6-engined two-seater sports car can do 142mph and 0-60mph in 5.9 seconds, you need to make sure its tyres are up to the job. Westbury-based Marcos has done just that – original fitment rubber on its sleek, low-slung TS250 is the 215/40 ZR17 Avon ZZ3.
Explains Marcos boss, Jem Marsh: ‘We were looking for a tyre that could match the performance of our new TS250 and the Avon ZZ3 fits the bill perfectly. Its roadholding is extremely impressive, not only in the dry but the wet, too. And when you do reach the limit, its breakaway characteristics are nicely progressive, leading to a feeling of control and confidence.
"We also had other reasons for picking the ZZ3. Although the TS250 is capable of extreme performance, it’s also intended to be a comfortable tourer, a genuine 'GT', so the fact the ZZ3 is a very quiet tyre is another point in its favour. For a low-profile tyre it also rides very well, too; its all-round dynamics are just what we’re after and a superb complement to the TS250’s abilities."
Avon is as pleased as Marcos at the news that the ZZ3 is original equipment on the TS250. Commenting from the Avon factory at Melksham, just a few miles up the road from Marcos’s Westbury works, David Carson, Avon’s Brand Marketing Manager, says: "Competition in the performance tyre sector is fierce, so to be chosen as OE by Marcos is fantastic news.
