Complete Avon Range on Show at EICMA & Mondial Du Deuz Roues
Leading tyre manufacturer Cooper-Avon Tyres Limited will be exhibiting its full range of motorcycle tyres at Milan’s EICMA Moto 2003, on stand B10, from 16th – 21st September 2003 and at the Mondial du deux roues in Paris from 26th September – 5th October.
Top billing will be given to the Azaro range of sport-touring, sports and hypersports tyres, featuring Avon’s unique Advanced Variable Belt Density [A-VBD] technology. The A-VBD manufacturing process varies the density of the restrictor belt beneath the tread to produce a tyre that gives high-speed, straight-line stability and improved cornering grip.
The new technology has proved so versatile that Avon became one of the first
manufacturers to offer a high-mileage sport touring tyre, the Azaro-ST, for bikes such as Kawasaki’s ZX-12R, the Honda Super Blackbird and Suzuki’s Hayabusa, all of which demand tyres capable of sustained speeds of up to 320k/ph.
The multi-tier Azaro range also includes the Azaro-SP Sport and two softer
compound options; the Azaro-SP Pro Series for fast road work and the Pro-Xtreme for track day enthusiasts. Available in a range of popular sizes, Pro-Xtreme includes road-legal rain tyres, allowing the action to continue even in wet conditions. Featuring soft, silica compounds and a tread profile designed to deliver the largest possible contact patch, Pro-Xtreme, is a no-compromise option for riders seeking to get the best from their bike.
Also on display will be Distanzia which includes a full range of fitments for adventure sport machines. Available in both T-rated crossply and H-rated radial versions, the radial Distanzias utilise A-VBD technology to address the growing trend amongst riders to use these bikes for long distance touring. Ted Simon, author of the international bestseller and Penguin classic Jupiter’s Travels recently completed his second round- the-world journey on Avon Distanzias, proving beyond doubt their qualities of durability and comfort.
Super Moto owners have welcomed the addition of new sizes and compounds to Avon’s Distanzia range to suit their own style of road riding. Available in 120/70R17, 150/60R17 & 160/60R17, the tyres feature an adventure sport pattern with softer compounds to cope with the higher performance demands of Super Moto machines.
Avon’s position as a leading supplier of tyres for cruisers and custom bike applications is underpinned by the Venom family of tyres in a wide range of standard and non-standard sizes. Recent additions include a fitment for the Harley Davidson V-Rod. The performance of the V-Rod demands a Z-rated tyre and the Avon 120/70ZR19 [60W] AM41 Venom-R front and 180/55ZR18 [74W] AM42 Venom-R rear are capable of speeds in excess of 169mph / 270kph. In addition to the standard V-Rod sizes, a 200/55ZR18 [79W] AM42 Venom-R provides a wider alternative that won’t compromise the bike’s top-speed performance.
Custom bike builders can now specify a 120/70-21 62H AM41 Venom to give a tall, wide front to complement fat rear tyres such as the Avon 250/40R18 AM42 Venom-R. Designed for rims from 2.75 – 3.75 inches wide, the new front features a stylish tread pattern and a special sidewall treatment incorporating a snake head logo. The tyre is H-rated for speeds of up to 130mph / 210kph.
The Avon display will be completed by Hkm, designed to meet the needs of mid-capacity machines. Offering exceptionally long life, Hkm’s specially shaped tread profile provides neat and neutral turn-in characteristics and excellent cornering stability.
